awara is a small, independent daily reflection app run by Jeenal Mehta. This page explains what information awara collects, how it is used, who helps process it, and the choices you have. It applies to the awara website and app.
The short version
- Your reflections and journal photos are private to your account.
- What you write is sent to an AI service (Google Gemini) to create your reflections and Sunday letter.
- No ads, no selling your data, no analytics or tracking cookies.
- You can download everything you've written, and ask us to delete your account at any time.
1. What awara collects
From your Google account. When you sign in with Google, awara receives your name, email address and profile picture. We don't receive your Google password or access to anything else in your Google account.
Your profile. The display name you choose, your profile photo (your Google photo or one you upload), your timezone (read from your device so “today” matches your local day), your Sunday letter settings, and whether “i'm hip” is on.
What you create. Your daily reflections, the photo you attach to an entry, your answers to follow-up questions, the AI reflections and closing notes generated for you, the “good things” you list, your Sunday letters, and a record of completed breathing and grounding sessions (type, length and date).
Time capsule. Letters you write to future you, with their title, the day you wrote them, the day they open and whether you asked for an email. awara only shows a letter's text on or after the day it opens; before then, even you only see its title and dates. Time capsule letters are never sent to the AI.
Feelings wheel. What you type into the feelings wheel is sent to the AI service to suggest words, then discarded. awara does not save what you type or the words you pick. It only notes the day you used the wheel, so your Sunday letter can mention it.
Technical data. Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and request times) to run and secure the service. awara also counts how many AI requests each account makes per day to stay within usage limits.
2. How your information is used
- To sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To show your journal, calendar, streak, “On this day” entries and letters back to you.
- To generate your reflections, follow-up questions, feelings suggestions and Sunday letters.
- To send the Sunday letter email, if you have it turned on, and a short email the morning a Time capsule letter opens, if you asked for one.
- To keep the service secure and working.
awara does not use your information for advertising, does not sell it, and does not build profiles about you for anyone else.
3. AI processing
To create reflections, follow-up questions, feelings suggestions and Sunday letters, awara sends the relevant text (today's prompt, what you wrote, your follow-up answers, the good things you listed, your first name for the letter, and a summary of your week's activity) to Google's Gemini API. Photos and Time capsule letters are not sent to the AI. If “i'm hip” is on, the AI is also asked to reply in a more casual voice; nothing extra about you is sent for that.
awara currently uses the free tier of the Gemini API. Under Google's terms for that tier, Google may use submitted content to improve its products, and human reviewers may read it. Google states it disconnects this content from the account and project it came from before review. If you'd rather not share certain details, leave out names and identifying information from your entries.
AI reflections are generated automatically. They are not written by a person, and they are not professional advice.
4. Services that help run awara
awara relies on a few providers. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase stores your account, entries and photos, and handles sign-in.
- Vercel hosts the website and runs the app's server code.
- Google provides sign-in (Google account) and AI processing (Gemini API).
- Resend delivers the Sunday letter email to your address.
awara may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of its users or the service.
5. Google user data
awara uses your Google name, email address and profile picture only to create and show your account, and to send emails you've chosen to receive. This information is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared except with the providers above to run the features you use.
awara's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
6. Cookies and your device
awara uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or analytics cookies. While you write, an unsaved draft of today's entry is kept in your browser's local storage on that device, and cleared once you save. Your sound volume is also remembered on that device. Sounds play in your browser and nothing about them is sent to awara.
Share images for WhatsApp or Instagram are created on your device. awara never posts anything for you; an image is only shared if you choose to share it, and you decide whether it includes your photo or words.
7. Emails
If Sunday letters are on, awara emails you a short letter about your week: a few lines from what you wrote, the ways you used awara, and a tip. It can include short quotes from what you wrote and up to four of that week's photos, which load through private links that expire after one year. You can change the time or turn letters off at any time in Settings.
If you ask for it when you seal a Time capsule letter, awara emails you on the morning it opens. That email only says when you wrote it and links to awara. It never includes the letter or its title. The Sunday letter may also mention the dates of letters opening soon.
8. Photos
Photos attached to entries are stored privately. They are only shown to you, through temporary links that expire. Profile photos you upload are stored in a location that anyone with the exact link could open, so choose one you're comfortable with being seen. Photos are resized on your device before upload, which also removes location data.
9. Keeping, exporting and deleting your data
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. Entries can't be changed once saved, but you can delete any entry, photo, good thing or Time capsule letter at any time, and download everything you've written from Settings > Your data. Sealed Time capsule letters appear in the download with their title and dates, and their text is included once they open.
To delete your account and everything in it, email jeenalm0707@gmail.com from the address you sign in with. Your account and data will be deleted within 30 days. Server logs and backups kept by our providers are removed on their own schedules.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, such as asking what data we hold about you or asking us to correct it. Email us to make a request.
10. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). The database only lets each account read and change its own entries, and journal photos are stored privately. No system is perfectly secure, but awara is built to keep your reflections yours.
11. Children
awara is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
12. Not a medical service
awara is a reflection tool, not a therapist, doctor or crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, contact your local emergency number or someone you trust right away.
13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. For significant changes, awara will let you know in the app or by email.
